sad-queer:

things “body positivity” movements should address besides weight/fat:

  • (dis)ability
  • features associated with non-whiteness
  • hair type
  • lots of body hair / no body hair / little body hair / hair in all places / losing hair
  • acne
  • skin conditions
  • scars
  • stretch marks
  • skin discolorations
  • different ways that skin tans
  • tanlines
  • etc

so when white feminists show me pictures of fat able-bodied white women with super smooth skin and no discolorations/skin marks and no body hair and say “love your body!!1!” it’s like nope.

I may be fat but I’m also so many other things that are looked down upon and policed. If your body positivity doesn’t seek to dismantle white supremacy/ableism/cissexism/etc, what good is your body positivity? who is it helping?

  • Fantasy novelist: Alright, time to create my fantasy world. Great thing about this genre is that I can make it anything I want. Could be based on any culture in any place from any time. Could be a mix of places and times, or something newly invented by me. Yup, there is literally nothing out of bounds here.

Trigger Warning: Ariel’s waist made me starve myself.

THIS is why it’s important to talk about problems within Disney. GUESS WHAT, THEY IMPACT PEOPLE. Just because it’s Disney doesn’t mean it’s all sweetness and light!
THIS is why it’s important to have heroines who look real. I don’t give a shit about your “Disney look” if it’s harming women. And it is.

THIS! Also, the amount of shaming going on in the comments in gross. Just because Ariel did not influence how you viewed yourself, does not mean she did not influence other people. Its not just Disney characters that make girls want to be thin. They are only bombarded with images of very thin girls and women in the media. That is a huge problem because it does affect women’s body image. While Ariel never influenced my body image, that doesn’t mean it is true for all women.
"This separation of the North from the rest of Africa is done partly on the justification that the people in the region are Arab, and thus not African. It is true that Arabs invaded northern Africa in the 7th century C.E., and colonized parts of the continent, and those Arabs were not indigenous Africans, but the north of Africa is not, however, Arab, and speaking Arabic does not make a North African an Arab. As one commenter put it, to call North Africans Arabs “… would be like calling people from Hong Kong British, or Peruvians Spanish. You wouldn’t class the Greeks as Turks would you?"
